Mini Police get hands on at Hammonds Drive

Week 8 of Mini Police with Tollgate Community Junior School and Shinewater Primary School was packed with action as the children stepped into the world of CSI and traffic policing at Hammonds Drive Police Station, Eastbourne, as well as meeting some of our police dogs at their school last week.

The Mini Police got hands on with specialist traffic officers and cars; getting to explore the equipment officers use during road stops and checks while firing off plenty of brilliant questions.

For many, the highlight was stepping into the roles of both police officer and 'baddies' as they took turns making ‘arrests’.

The group then got to become 'mini detectives', putting their CSI skills to the test by leaving fingerprints around the station before taking part in some dusting for prints to uncover the evidence.

They had the chance to meet some of our police dogs, and watch them in action sniffing out hidden items, asking lots of questions and learning what it's like to work as a dog handler.

When asked, one Mini Police participant said about the day, ‘this has been so much fun, I don't want to leave."

PCSO Ellie Clark said, who runs the scheme in Eastbourne said:

"This is the third primary school I have had the joy of working with and educating about the role of police.

“Mini Police is about so much more than learning about policing, it's about inspiring confidence, building trust and empowering young people to make a positive difference in their communities.

“Seeing the impact it has on children makes me even more determined to give more young people the opportunity to be part of this incredible journey in the years ahead.

"A huge well done to everyone involved.”

Section 59 warning issued, warning ignored = vehicle seized

Despite a Section 59 warning being issued late last month, reports of anti-social riding continued to be received from the community in Kingsmere.

Your local PCSOs followed up on those reports and carried out a number of enquiries, which confirmed the moped was still being used in breach of the warning and by riders who did not hold a valid driving licence or valid insurance.

Earlier this week, while on patrol, PCSOs located the vehicle and took the next step under the Section 59 process; resulting in it being seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act 2002.

We understand the effects ASB can, and does have on local communities, and we hope this provides reassurance that information from the community is being acted upon and that action will be taken where anti-social vehicle use is identified.

Busy week for NPT across your town

It’s been another busy and productive week, with your Neighbourhood Policing Team working hard to keep your community safe.

• Officers quickly recovered, and returned a stolen bicycle to its teenage owner following information received from the public; local enquiries have since led to a suspect being identified.

• Following reports of a commercial burglary, swift local enquiries led to suspects being arrested within days of the offence, with stolen property also recovered and the investigation remains ongoing.
 

• Continued patrols targeting anti-social behaviour (ASB) resulted in the arrest of an individual who was also found in possession of prohibited items.
 

• During a town-wide day of action, teams carried out a number of searches, resulting in several seizures, and positive interventions, including disrupting groups involved in ASB and other criminality.
 

• Further proactive patrols led to action being taken against suspected drug-related activity; including officers locating a wanted individual at an address linked to concerns around vulnerability and exploitation.

Officers continue to be out across the town over the weekend, tackling local concerns and helping to keep your communities safe.
